Suit Dry Cleaning

Professional suit dry cleaning services near me

Suit cleaning is at the heart of the services Five Elms Dry Cleaners provides for customers. Dry cleaning a suit can give it a refresh, avoiding shrinking that may occur when cleaning at home. We will always recommend cleaning a suit pair together (and not separately) to avoid any mismatching of colour over time.

How often to dry clean a suit?

This depends on how often you wear it! If you wear a suit for work purposes, sweat stains can start to appear on the lining over time, and even seep out into the external fabrics if not cleaned regularly. If these stains are not managed, they can oxidise over time and no amount of cleaning will be able to remove them. For those who wear suits regularly we suggest to clean it after 2-3 days of wear.

On the reverse side, if you wear a suit only for certain events, like weddings or funerals, dry cleaning will help to freshen it up between wears. However, be warned that if the suit has been left for too long with any type of staining, these most likely will not be removable. Keeping dirty suits in the back of cupboards can also attract mould which dry cleaning may not be able to remove. We recommend to dry clean your suit as early as possible after an event, and store it in a suit bag between wears.

Why do you have to dry clean suits?

A whole host of reasons may be why your suit is not washable at home and will need to be dry cleaned. These can include: material composition, embellishments like beads and buttons and the internal structure of the jacket or materials used to fuse fabric together (like glue). The above may all be damaged by water washing which is why dry cleaning is recommended.

If you don’t dry clean your suit and opt to clean at home, you increase the likelihood of damage such as shrinking. Likewise, if you refuse to clean your suit at all, over time staining may start to appear along the outer fabric which will be difficult to remove if left untreated for long periods of time.

Can I dry clean my suit jacket separately?

If you bought a suit pair (jacket and trousers) or a triplet (jacket, trousers and waist coat) we highly recommend you clean all the items together. Dyes used on the fabric can bleed and fade over time, so if you regularly clean a suit jacket, when it comes to wearing the full set the jacket may be a lighter shade than the trousers.

Are invisible stains real? Yes they are, and the worst part is - you won't see them until AFTER they've been cleaned.

Ever wondered what happens to your clothes when you take them to the dry cleaners? The hush hush of what happens behind the counter? Fear no more, as we are going to take you behind the curtain and reveal the exact process for cleaning clothes professionally. Step 1 We inspect your clothes thoroughly for any stains, or any plastics or artwork that might melt when in contact with the solvents. This is basically a safety process for your clothes. We also check pockets for any nasties that may be hiding in there. Sometimes we find tissues and the odd pen, but trust us when we say we've found waaaaayyy worst things lurking in pockets.

At Five Elms Dry Cleaners, we like to be as helpful as possible so our customers can get the best experience when using our services. To ensure the quickest possible turn around time for your garments, take a look at these tips to help maximise your satisfaction with us. 1. Don't Leave cleaning to the last minute If you have a wedding or event on Saturday morning, don't bring your clothing in on Friday afternoon. Friday and Saturday are the busiest days for us so we might not be able to clean your clothes on time. It is best to allow at least 24-48hours for your cleaning. 2. Leave extra time for whites If bringing whites in, leave an extra day for pick up so we can ensure your whites come out sparkling and bright. If whites are heavily stained, they might need a double wash. 3. Check your pockets You would be surprised by the things we find in unchecked pockets! From a simple embroidery hanky to objects a bit more embarrassing, please be aware that anything left in pockets will not be saved for you. Leaving items such as pens and tissues can also damage the machine if not taken out before hand, delaying the cleaning process so please remove items and check pockets before leaving your clothes with us. 4. Highlight any stains that require special attention If you want particular attention taken on cuffs, collars or even a particular stain then let us know when you arrive with your cleaning. We try our best to get rid of any stain we see, but just on the off chance we miss the stain you are worried of, please notify us when booking in your clothes. 5. Leave plenty of time for tricky stains Stains such as blood, varnish & paint are harder to remove than everyday food and sweat stains, so please allow extra time to ensure your clothes are fully cleaned. 6. Let us know of any damage before hand If your garment needs repairing, please let us know when you bring it in for cleaning. We don't as a rule repair garments if not asked by the customer. If your hem is undone or the seam is loose we will not automatically stitch it for you if you have booked just cleaning. Please let us know before hand if you would like a stitch as well as cleaning. 7. Have a date in mind for pick up You've just booked your clothing - hurray! Now think of a time and date to collect. We are open Monday-Saturday 8am-6pm every week (closed for bank holidays) We hope you enjoyed our top tips and found value in our advice. Please leave a comment bellow and let us know what you think of our new blog!

We often get tons of questions from curious customers asking about the process of dry cleaning, or what makes the "dry" in dry cleaning. Contrary to popular belief, the clothes actually get wet in the process! Dry cleaning is a process that uses solvents, instead of water, to clean clothes. What makes it "dry"? You may have heard of the term "wet cleaning" which is essentially a cleaning process that uses water to clean clothes, similar to laundry. Any other process that doesn't use water to clean is referred to as "dry cleaning". When to dry clean? As often as you like. We recommend bringing your garments in from once a week to once a month to keep them fresh and crisp. If you have a particular tricky stain, or an old stain, it may take several attempts of cleaning, which in turn, may damage the garment if over cleaning occurs. To avoid this we recommend coming in often. What to dry clean? We can dry clean delicates such as silks, linen and chiffon, but we can also dry clean jeans, shirts and t-shirts that have hard to remove stains. The stains include: paint, blood, makeup, sweat, turmeric, spices, tomato, mud and grass, glue, wax, petrol/ diesel. What else does dry cleaning do? Dry cleaning can also keep the colour of your clothes which may fade when washing or wet cleaning. It removes stains better than water and detergent, and it leaves your clothes fresh and crisp. Your whites come out whiter, and your darks stay dark! Wet cleaning could shrink clothes but with dry cleaning there is no fear of this! If you have a garment that might need dry cleaning, or if you're not sure whether dry cleaning can remove your hard stain then call us and we can discuss what we can do for you.
